(AP) CLERMONT, Ind. — Alexis DeJoria raced past John Force to win the Funny Car division at the NHRA’s U.S. Nationals on Monday.

Scoring your first NHRA U.S. Nationals victory is one thing. But getting it by beating the legendary John Force in the final? For Alexis DeJoria, that is bucket-list stuff.

DeJoria crossed the finish line in 4.038 seconds at 310.34 mph in a Toyota Camry. She became the fourth female winner of the U.S. Nationals and the first woman to win three Funny Car races in a single season.

“It’s huge,” DeJoria said. “I was just happy to make it to another semifinal; that was four in a row. To make it past the semifinals that was huge, but to win this race just builds our confidence even more and in me especially.”

Force, a 16-time Funny Car world champion, finished in 4.039 seconds at 319.67 mph in a Ford Mustang.

If the name DeJoria sounds familiar to some of you race fans, her father, John Paul Dejoria, founder of Paul Mitchell hair  products and Patron tequila among other sucessful business ventures, has racing in his blood himself, and is one of the principle investors in the Circuit of the Americas race track in Austin, Texas.

And if you’re wondering why this blog is Fast Women, not only did she beat John Force, but his legendary daughter Courtney Force as well.

Still, a very impressive showing by Ms. Force, who did take home her 100th win.  Congratulations to both of these remarkable women!
